Cassano signed for Hellas Verona in the summer as a free agent but changed his mind and was released just a few weeks it later.

It had been thought that was the end of his career but the 35-year-old says he is hoping to sign for a new club in the coming weeks.

The former Italy international could have Serie A options as SPAL and Sassuolo have been linked while Serie B outfit Virtus Entella have also been mooted as possible suitors.

“I am not a former player as I am still active and ready to come back if I find a project that interests me,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I am convinced that I can win this final battle. I never had a serious injury in my career and can still give a great deal to football.”
